Remediation and Demolition Work Starting in Homewood South
Work is beginning this week on multiple URA- and City-owned properties along the North Homewood Avenue corridor in the City of Pittsburgh’s Homewood South neighborhood.
As previously announced in October 2024, the remediation and demolition is part of a long-term strategic effort in collaboration with the Homewood Community Development Collaborative (HCDC) to clean up blighted sites and position them for redevelopment. The City of Pittsburgh allocated $2 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act funding to the URA for improvement of the following properties, which were identified due to their condition and proximity to the business corridor:
Minniefield Demolition Services, LLC was selected to perform the work. Demolition and remediation work is anticipated through the end of spring 2025. However, the end date is subject to change. Minniefield has fenced off active sites and will fence off future work areas. The URA has instructed Minniefield to adhere to appropriate safety regulations and to prevent dust pollution. All public streets, sidewalks, driveways, and alleys are expected to remain open.
The URA and the HCDC previously hosted an informational community meeting on October 14, 2024 to collect community feedback on future development. URA staff also provided residents with an update on the timeline for work at the HCDC’s February 13, 2025 meeting. Additional opportunities to provide feedback on future development will be announced on the URA’s and HCDC’s websites and social media.
All future development plans and property sales are subject to approval from the URA Board of Directors.
