ATTENTION MWBE DEVELOPERS AND MWBE PROFESSIONAL SERVICE PROVIDERS 

Two networking opportunities for you to review:

OPPORTUNITY  1 

On Monday, July 22, 2019, the URA released a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for Scattered Sites along Centre Avenue. As part of the URA’s MWBE Program Office’s outreach initiative, MWBE firms that provide professional services, that are relevant to the pre-development and development process, are strongly encouraged to attend the RFQ Q & A and Teaming Event scheduled for Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. ET. This event will be held at the Jeron X. Grayson Center – 1852 Enoch Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15219. RSVP your attendance to Claren Healey, chealey@ura.org.

OPPORTUNITY 2

On Thursday, July 25, 2019, the URA released a Request for Proposals (RFP) - 4800 Block of Second Avenue. The deadline for interested respondents to submit proposals is Thursday, October 17, 2019 at Noon ET. As part of the URA’s MWBE Program Office’s outreach initiative, MWBE firms that provide professional services, that are relevant to the pre-development and development process, are strongly encouraged to attend the RFP Q & A and Teaming Event scheduled for Thursday, August 15, 2019 at 8:30 a.m. ET. This event will be held at the Pittsburgh Fire Fighters Local No. 1 – 120 Flowers Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15207. RSVP your attendance to Joy Akrie, jakrie@ura.org.

The goal of the teaming events is to provide interested respondents with an opportunity to connect, and potentially team, with MWBE firms which provide architectural, community engagement, engineering, and other professional services. 

FUN FUN FUN

On Sunday, July 21, 2019, the URA’s MWBE Program Office hosted a MWBE networking event at Pirates v. Philadelphia game. The game wasn’t a winning one for the Bucs, but it sure was a winning afternoon for the MWBE participants.

Ann Sekely, vice president of business development for Waller Corporation, stated:

“I had fun and made some wonderful contacts.” 

Stephanie Turman, president of Always Busy Consulting, conveyed:

“Thank you for inviting us to the Pirates game. I had a blast.”

National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA)

On July 11, 2019, URA staff met with Alicia Volcy, president of NOMA Pittsburgh. Alicia provided an overview of NOMA, its membership and the Project Pipeline Programming that the organization provides for minority youth. Learn more about NOMA Pittsburgh.

End of Summer Training Opportunities

INTRODUCTION TO OSHA

An Introduction to OSHA will be presented by Holly Hudson, an authorized OSHA outreach construction safety trainer. Three introductory sessions are being offered, however, interested parties only need to attend one of the three. Early evening sessions will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2019, Tuesday, August 27, 2019 and on Wednesday, September 4, 2019.

CONCEPT TO LAUNCH

Chatham’s Women’s Business Center is offering a 6-week entrepreneurial training program for women in the early stages of starting a business. This program is scheduled for six Wednesday evenings, starting on August 21, 2019 and ending on September 25, 2019.

TURNER CONSTRUCTION 2019 SCHOOL OF CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT TRAINING COURSE

Turner Construction, in partnership with UPMC Supplier Diversity, is offering a 12-week course, that is free of charge to minority, women-owned, disabled, LGBTQ, veteran/disabled veteran, disadvantaged new/start-up, and growing engineering and construction related businesses in the Pittsburgh metro area/Southwestern Pennsylvania. Training will commence on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 and will be held on the second and fourth Tuesdays in September and October, with a final training date of Tuesday, November 5, 2019.

NATIONAL GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE CERTIFICATION PROGRAM (NGICP)

Cosmos Technologies is offering a certification program to provide nationally recognized credentials for individuals who install, inspect and maintain Green Infrastructure (G.I.) Systems. The certification program will be offered on Thursday evenings:

  • September 5, 2019 – October 3, 2019
  • October 17, 2019 – November 14, 2019
